Important Notes/Guidelines for Parents
1. All underage Team’s will need a parent to fill the role of Team Manager.
2. All Parents/Guardians will be contacted by the Team Manager in relation to supervision at training sessions. This supervision is not optional. A Parent on Duty rota will be Created by every Team Manager. Every parent must take their turn as it is unfair to expect other parents to fill in, in order to help us operate under the strict guidelines of Child Protection. This is for all age groups. When supervising the session you are required to fill in the attendance book and if necessary collect monies. If a child gets injured or sick during the session you will be required to sit with them either until they feel well or in extreme cases until their parent arrives to collect them. Liaise with the coach on duty to ascertain if it is necessary to call their parent before the end of the session. Do not allow any child to leave the hall until a parent comes for them. If the child requires using the toilet, have another child accompany them. Under no circumstances allow yourself to be alone with a child.
3. All Parents/Guardians will be contacted by the Team Manager in relation to helping at Home matches(sometimes home games may be played in Parochial Hall). Roles needed to be filled on Home matches are 2 Table officials (1scorekeeper 1 timekeeper training will be given) 1 Door Person (collecting monies from opponents players & parents). Parents will also be requested to accompany the coach on away trips in accordance with Child Protection Guidelines, or help with travel to some games. Again a Parent on duty rota will be created for Matches.
4. On registration all players, parents and coaches are agreeing to abide by the Codes of Conduct as outlined by Basketball Ireland. These can be viewed on www.basketballireland.ie. Registration to the club entitles every child to a properly run coaching session, it does not guarantee competitive game time. We will endeavour to have blitzes or mini-games.
5. When leaving children at training sessions, parents/guardians should always check that the training sessions is proceeding and that there is a coach/ Team Manager present. Always consider your child’s safety.
6. When collecting children from training sessions, parents must ensure that they do so at the designated finishing time in order to ensure best practice in child protection guidelines. Please also give consideration to the coach who is giving up their personal time voluntarily to train your children.
7. Parents/Guardians must inform coaches/Team Managers of any important changes to contact details or advise the relevant coach/Team Manager of any change in your child’s medical condition.
8. It is also important for the children to see that they are supported by their parents. Come along and see them play or stay occasionally at the training session and tell them how well they are doing.
Failure of parents complying may result in the team being withdrawn from competition.
